The common goldeneye is native to North America and Eurasia. 

Female has brown head, white and grey body and white eyes. Male has green head with white spot on each side of the base of its bill and yellow irises.

    Male has a distinctive white spot on each cheek and striking black and white coloration. Both sexes have notably yellow eye irises, females somewhat darker.
