Greater flamingos inhabit Africa and Southeast Asia. Ocassionally they migrate to South France and Sicily.
In most cases they form lifelong partnerships. They form large flocks.
Their bird nesting season starts in May and ends in August.
Parents rotate between their brooding responsibilities. Chicks hatch grey even black with straight bills. Parents feed their offspring together. 5 weeks old chicks group up and form nurseries. The length of chicks’ rearing is around 70 days. Young flamingos stay with their parents for up to 6 years. Young flamingos hatched in our zoo stay about one year, then leave the zoo and are transported to a different zoo.
