Location Scarlet ibis

The scarlet ibis can be found in South America.

It has a characteristic long and slightly downcurved bill, which is quite a useful tool for foraging. It inhabits wetlands, mangroves, estuaries and swamps, where it searches for small animals.

The scarlet ibis is social, in order to better protect itself it sometimes lives in mixed colonies and during breeding season forms monogamous pairs. Bird nesting season for them begins in April and ends in August. Mated pairs build nests in simple style. Dark and almost black chicks hatch from blue and white speckled eggs.
