Location Alpaca

Alpaca is domesticated member of the camel family, that derives from the vicuña (Vicugna vicugna). The alpaca differs from the llama in that it has a rounded body and tends to press its tail close to the body. The alpaca's shaggy coat ranges in colour from black or brown to lighter shades of grey and white. It is slender-bodied animal with a long neck and long legs, a short tail, a small head, and large pointed ears. There are two breeds of alpaca llamas: Suri – has thick long fur, typically very glossy and soft and is considered the highest quality of alpaca; Huacaya - has shorter and springier fur, significantly coarser and duller

  • Do You Know...

One of the alpaca’s primary defense mechanisms is spitting. They start by shooting out warning spits consisting of saliva or even air. However, when they are truly in distress, they will bring up stomach contents including acids and partially digested food and spit them as far as 10 feet.
